Our role is to help heritage organisations compare realistic options, understand their implications for collections, staff and resources, and establish priorities that can be sustained.

Organisational change affecting collections care

​

Changes in staffing, budgets, responsibilities or organisational structure can directly affect an organisation’s ability to care for its collections. Specialist expertise can be lost, workloads can become unsustainable, and responsibility for essential work can become unclear. Project-funded activity can also create ongoing requirements that outlast the funding.

We help organisations assess what these changes mean for collections care: what capacity and expertise remain, which risks have increased, and what can realistically continue, change or be deferred.

​

This includes examining responsibilities, decision-making authority, working relationships and workloads. We support Heads of Collections, Conservation and Preservation in explaining capacity constraints, presenting realistic options and communicating the consequences of decisions to senior management.

What you receive

​

The scope and outputs are agreed for each assignment. These can include an independent review report, an assessment of capacity and resource needs, an options appraisal, prioritised recommendations or an action plan setting out responsibilities and next steps.

Independent reviews and advisory support are available online internationally, with site visits incorporated where the work requires them.
